Tuesday 26th September

Making of the mask.

We got to the QE, where Donells Radiotherapy nurse was waiting to explain to us what was going to happen and what he would be going through, they took us into the mould room so they could put Donell to sleep. It only took him about 30 seconds and he was out, we both gave Donell a kiss and left him in the room.

While they were making the mask, Donells radiotherapy nurse came out to us to explain about the radiotherapy and the side effects. She went over the reason for the mask, that it's to keep his head still so that they hit the same spot every time. As for the side effects, he would get vomiting, nausea, very tired, sleepy, hair loss, sunburn around the areas that were been treated and lack of appetite, she also said that he may not get all of these but they are most common.

It took them about an hour to do the mask, and they then had to do a CT scan on the mask to plot out the area they had to treat and again to hit the same spot. It took about 30 minutes for this. Donells radiotherapy nurse cane back to tell us that everything went well and that we could go in and see him, when he woke he was very groggy and still this was because he was sleeping for so long.

Dates!

We had the dates come through for Donells radiotherapy at the QE hospital, they're to start on the 16th of October.
